1. The core principle of the Law of Attraction
‘Like attracts like.’ This is the basic principle behind the entire concept of LoA. To understand this, we must first forget what physics taught us: likes repel, unlikes attract.
LoA states that the thoughts you put out into the universe determine what the universe gives you. That is, if you think positive thoughts, you gain positivity and vice versa. The power of your thoughts can shape your reality and give you the kind of life you desire.
But there’s a catch…
2. It’s not magic!
The Law of Attraction (LoA) is a complex philosophy that was first shrouded in mystery. But as it gained popularity as a mantra for success, people started talking about it more. Although this has improved our understanding of LoA, it has also lead to misconceptions that make people believe that LoA is some kind of magic trick. All you have to do is think about owning a Lamborghini hard enough, and wham! The universe will give you a brand new Lamborghini. That’s just wishful thinking.
The Law of Attraction is not about wishful thinking.
Look at it this way: Let’s say you want a small flower garden in your backyard. You go out, buy soil, seeds and some gardening tools. When you return home, you just dump all your purchases in the backyard. And for the next one week, you spend two hours a day just thinking about and picturing the garden you want. You meditate, you dream, you imagine posting pictures of your garden on Instagram.
But have you actually planted the seeds? Have you actually done what you need to do to grow a garden? No.
That’s exactly what it’s like to sit back and expect LoA to magically transform your life. Yes, our thoughts have immense power, but not enough to physically materialise a car or a soulmate. The Law of Attraction works only when you do. The act of thinking positively and asking the universe for what you want simply aids you in reaching your goals.
3. All good things happen to those who wait
A common mistake that people make is to assume that LoA is instantaneous. If you get into this practice with the expectation of overnight success, you’re setting yourself up for disappointment. Whatever your goals are—better grades, fitness, money—it’ll take time and work to achieve them. Patience is key.
LoA doesn’t change your life overnight, but as several success stories claim, it helps people reach their goals faster than they could without it.
4. Locus of Control
Locus of Control (LOC) is a measure of how much you believe you control your life. If you believe that you have power over your life, you have an internal locus of control. Whereas, if you tend to believe in fate and external forces, you have an external LOC.
A person with an external locus of control will find it harder to manifest the Law of Attraction. This is because of their belief that they don’t have much say in what happens to them. In LoA, you need to strongly believe that you are capable of creating a desirable life for yourself. Only then, your thoughts have power and you have the motivation to take the right action. But if you have an external LOC, don’t fret! Although it takes time, it’s entirely possible to adopt an internal locus of control.
